Evacuation of people from flood zones has begun in Makhachkala.

In Makhachkala, the evacuation of residents of the Palmira microdistrict, located in the flood zone, has begun. Authorities also announced an evacuation due to the threat of collapse of a six-story residential building on Aivazovsky Street.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," a state of emergency is in effect in 12 municipalities of Dagestan due to flooding. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, as of April 4, more than 1,000 residential buildings and 1,100 garden plots remained flooded. Today, rains triggered a new phase of flooding. In particular, in Makhachkala, sections of city streets and the area around the Primorskaya substation, which supplies electricity to residents of the Reduktorny settlement and the Palmira microdistrict, were flooded.

Due to the flooding, the evacuation of residents from the Palmira microdistrict has begun, the Makhachkala administration reported on its Telegram channel. "People will be evacuated to safe zones, temporary accommodation centers have been organized for them, and the necessary assistance is being provided," the publication stated.

There is also a threat of collapse of an apartment building at 6v Aivazovsky Street. Four apartment buildings on this street have been cordoned off, "where potential danger remains," the administration reported.

"The buildings in question house more than 100 apartments. Around 300 people have been evacuated. Some residents will be placed in temporary accommodation centers," the publication, made at 2:42 p.m. Moscow time, noted.

Nine temporary accommodation centers for evacuated residents have been set up in the city, Makhachkala Mayor Dzhambulat Salavov reported on his Telegram channel.

He noted that the city's public utilities have been put on high alert, with more than 30 teams working to address the aftermath of the flooding. "In the village of Palmyra, the city administration has organized backfilling work. To prevent water from entering the courtyards of residential buildings from the streets, special equipment has been deployed to backfill areas in front of gates and entrances," he wrote.

At the same time, vehicles are being evacuated from flooded areas.

Administration and Emergency Situations Ministry employees are conducting door-to-door visits, Salavov added. "Specialized equipment, including KAMAZ trucks and large and medium-sized buses, has been deployed to evacuate residents. Vehicles are also being evacuated from flooded areas," the statement noted.
