Access to two Dagestani villages is closed after an avalanche.

An avalanche in the Tlyaratinsky District disrupted transportation to the villages of Gvedysh and Gendukh.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," in early January, villages in the mountainous regions of Dagestan were left without power after heavy snowfalls, but repair crews were unable to reach the sites. In the Tlyaratinsky District, snowdrifts interrupted transportation to several villages.

An avalanche occurred on the evening of April 3 in the Tlyaratinsky District, at the fourth kilometer of the Tlyarata-Gvedysh highway, the Dagestan Ministry of Emergency Situations reported on its website.

"Traffic in this section is blocked. The avalanche reached the roadway, disrupting transportation to two villages: Gvedysh and Gendukh in the Tlyaratinsky District," the publication stated.

As a reminder, a state of emergency has been declared in 12 other municipalities in Dagestan due to flooding that began in late March. The republic's authorities have received more than 4,000 applications for damage compensation, and 43,000 residents applied for financial assistance.

Flooding damaged homes, appliances, furniture, and cars. Makhachkala residents complained of problems with electricity and water supplies, transportation accessibility, and a lack of communication with emergency services. Dagestan and Chechnya were hardest hit by the natural disaster in the North Caucasus, according to the "Caucasian Knot" report "Spring Flooding in the North Caucasus - 2026".
