Flood damage in Chechnya and Dagestan exceeded 1 billion rubles.

The authorities of Chechnya and Dagestan will request federal assistance to address the consequences of the devastating flood, as the total damage in the two republics exceeds 1 billion rubles.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," by April 2, the state of emergency due to the flooding was extended to 12 municipalities in Dagestan. The republic's authorities have accepted more than four thousand applications for compensation for damage caused by the floods. 43,000 residents of Dagestan applied for financial assistance.

According to preliminary estimates, damage to the land reclamation complex of Dagestan as a result of flooding amounted to approximately 250 million rubles, Artem Korovin, Director of the Land Reclamation Department of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, reported today.

"Also, according to information from the Dagestan Ministry of Agriculture, damage was caused to agricultural facilities, and there is flooding of agricultural land," Interfax quotes Korovin as saying.

The official promised that the republic will "seek" funds for the prompt restoration of damaged land. Meanwhile, at today's meeting between Dagestan Head Sergei Melikov and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the North Caucasus Yuri Chaika, the issue of federal funding for damage control work was discussed. Chaika arrived in Dagestan and inspected facilities damaged by flooding following heavy rains, the Dagestan head's administration reported on its Telegram channel.

At Chaika's meeting with Melikov and Chechen Deputy Prime Minister Rustam Shaptukayev, it was stated that the damage from the emergency in both republics, according to preliminary estimates by local authorities, exceeds 1 billion rubles. Therefore, Dagestan and Chechnya will submit documents on the consequences of the emergency to a federal government commission for review in order to receive federal funding.

The Dagestan government will also ask the Central Bank to defer loan repayments for affected residents until the end of the year and waive late payment penalties. For the same period, authorities will grant a payment deferral for tenants of republican and municipal property damaged by flooding.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic Manvel Mazhonts stated that approximately 3,500 homes have been damaged by flooding to date: more than 2,000 of these are in Makhachkala, over 770 homes were damaged in the Khasavyurt district, and another 285 in Dagestanskiye Ogni. The cost of major repairs and compensation to owners of damaged and lost housing is estimated at more than 4 billion rubles, he noted.

Makhachkala City Hall, in turn, stated that as of April 2, flooding had affected more than 173 streets in Makhachkala, 3,755 homes, and the same number of garden plots. Makhachkala Mayor Dzhambulat Salavov announced today that 2,316 applications for compensation have been received from Makhachkala residents.
