The decision to recover 84 billion rubles from the owners of tankers that sank near Anapa was upheld.

The Arbitration Court of the North Caucasus District upheld court decisions to recover more than 84.9 billion rubles from the owners of the tankers wrecked near Anapa for damage to the sea.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", in August 2025, the Arbitration Court of the Krasnodar Territory satisfied the claim of Rosprirodnadzor against the owner and charterer of one of the tankers wrecked in the Kerch Strait, the Volgoneft-212, ruling to recover more than 49 billion 460 million rubles from Kamatransoil LLC and Kama Shipping LLC for damage to the Black Sea. All bank accounts of these companies were frozen. The owner of the Volgoneft-212 tanker that sank in the Kerch Strait failed to challenge the decision to recover over 49 billion rubles for damages caused to the Black Sea. The owner of the Volgoneft-239 tanker filed a complaint with the Arbitration Court of the North Caucasus District against a court decision ordering the company to pay the Russian budget 35.48 billion rubles in damages to the Black Sea.

The Arbitration Court of the North Caucasus District dismissed the cassation appeals of Kamatransoil LLC and Volgatransneft CJSC against the rulings of the courts of the two previous instances: the owners of the Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239, which sank in the Black Sea, are required to pay a total of over 84.9 billion rubles for damages to the sea, Rosprirodnadzor reported on its website.

The tankers sank in December 2024, resulting in an oil spill in the sea. Rosprirodnadzor calculated the environmental damage from the emergency and filed claims against the vessel owners.

The calculated damages against the owner of the Volgoneft-212 tanker, Kamatransoil LLC, and the vessel's charterer, Kama Shipping LLC, amounted to approximately 49.5 billion rubles, while those against the owner of the Volgoneft-239, Volgatransneft CJSC, amounted to approximately 35.5 billion rubles. None of the organizations voluntarily compensated for the damage, so the Service filed lawsuits, the report states.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the Krasnodar Regional Court upheld as legal the calculation method by which the Kuban Ministry of Natural Resources estimated the damage to wildlife caused by Volgatransneft CJSC following the fuel oil spill in the Kerch Strait at 34.2 billion rubles.
