The operational headquarters has labeled the fuel oil washed up on Anapa beaches as old.

Fuel oil spills have been detected on the beaches of Anapa and the village of Volna, but this is old fuel oil that had been lying on the seabed, the task force announced. Volunteers noted the largest spills on the Bugayskaya Spit.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," the Russian government reported on February 20 that there were no new fuel oil spills on the shores of Anapa and the Temryuk district. Volunteers called this claim false, posting photos and videos of the spills after the storm.

Old fuel oil spills raised from the seabed by a strong storm are being removed from Anapa, the task force of the "Krasnodar Krai" reported today. "They were discovered during daily monitoring of the coastline in three areas from Anapa's central beach to Tortuga Beach in the village of Vityazevo." Cleanup efforts have been organized at the scene. Representatives from the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Krasnodar Territory, Kuban-SPAS, the Anapa administration, and resort residents are participating. Over the course of the day, 98 bags of storm debris and oil spill fragments were collected," the statement reads.

Cleanup efforts have also been organized in the village of Veselovka in the Temryuk District, where Kuban-SPAS employees and volunteers are removing "small fragments of oil spills," the task force reported.

Volunteers from the "Dolphins" headquarters reported that in the village of Volna, "there is no fuel oil on the shore." Palm oil is in abundance: the shore is strewn with fragments, traces of which are visually visible." Localized fuel oil emissions have been observed in Veselovka, and the Bugayskaya Spit is "the main location of fuel oil pollution."

"SSL volunteers are on site, but there are not enough people for such a long stretch of shore," the report states.

As a reminder, on April 18, 2025, Rospotrebnadzor declared 141 beaches in Anapa and nine beaches in the Temryuk district unsuitable for recreation.
