It disappeared on the morning of February 13. Then the plaque was torn down for the thirteenth time – the original memorial plaque and 12 temporary plaques installed by activists were destroyed.

On the night of February 14, activists restored the memorial plaque on Anna Politkovskaya's house. The homemade plaque they installed repeats the text from the previously destroyed plaque: "In this house, Anna Politkovskaya lived and was viciously murdered on October 7, 2006." However, this afternoon it was reported that the plaque had been destroyed again, this time for the 14th time, RusNews reports.

A stenciled inscription, a copy of the original plaque, remains on the wall near the entrance, according to the photographs attached to the publication.

On January 18, a memorial plaque bearing the name of Anna Politkovskaya was destroyed for the first time in a building on Lesnaya Street. Activists from the "Civil Initiative" group installed a temporary plaque to replace the one destroyed, but on January 19, it too was destroyed. Representatives of a far-right organization designated as terrorist claimed responsibility for the destruction of the first plaque. The man who smashed a memorial plaque was fined 1,000 rubles, though he denied any wrongdoing, claiming the plaque "fell and broke on its own."

In 2025, on the 19th anniversary of Anna Politkovskaya's murder, residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg brought flowers to her grave, the Novaya Gazeta office, and the memorial to the victims of repression. Some of those convicted in the case of her murder have already been released, but the person who ordered it has not yet been convicted, Politkovskaya's colleagues recalled.

On the fifth anniversary of Politkovskaya's murder, journalists and human rights activists at a rally in Tbilisi highlighted her contribution to the fight for freedom of speech, demanding that those who ordered her murder be identified.
