Dagestani authorities are taking an interest in the incident involving a conscript soldier.

The Ministry of Nationalities of Dagestan is investigating the circumstances of the injury sustained by a 19-year-old conscript soldier, who is in serious condition and undergoing treatment in Moscow. The ministry is in contact with the soldier's parents.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," according to the official version, the conscript from Dagestan suffered a skull injury in a fall from a tower, although there is reason to believe he was beaten, said Shamil Khadulaev, head of the Public Monitoring Commission for Dagestan, calling for an investigation into what happened at the unit.

The Ministry of National Policy and Religious Affairs of Dagestan is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident involving a 19-year-old conscript soldier from Dagestan, who, according to information circulating on social media, is being treated at the N. N. Burdenko National Medical Research Center of Neurosurgery with a severe head injury.

"Employees of the Dagestan Ministry of Nationalities are in contact with the young man's parents. The agency will provide the necessary assistance for a comprehensive, objective investigation of the incident," the agency said in a statement on its Telegram channel.

The situation is under the control of Acting Minister of National Policy and Religious Affairs of Dagestan Temirlan Abutalimov, the agency emphasized.

It was also reported that the head of the republic received information about the incident, but the information was posted on the Telegram channel "What's Up with the Dagestanis."

"The head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, received information about the incident involving a soldier from Dagestan in the Voronezh Region. He instructed that all details of the incident be clarified and that appropriate assistance will be provided if necessary," the statement said.

"Caucasian "Uzel" also reported that following the October 2021 beating of Dagestani conscript Islam Aliyev, three soldiers from a military unit in Khabarovsk Krai—Ismail Magomedov and Shamil Tarchokov—and contract soldier Rinat Gashimov were detained. A criminal case has been opened for violating statutory obligations and extorting 20,000 rubles and a cell phone from a fellow soldier, the Investigative Committee reported. According to the military prosecutor's office, two of Aliyev's fellow soldiers from Dagestan and Kabardino-Balkaria participated in the beating, which was filmed on video. Social media users condemned those involved in the beating of a soldier.

The fact that a criminal case has been opened for violation of military regulations and extortion following the incident at a military unit in Khabarovsk Krai is the correct classification, but the case could be reclassified over time. Cases of beatings of North Caucasians in military units are not uncommon, but it is not customary for them to complain about the use of physical force, lawyers indicated.
