Exit from North Ossetia via the Georgian Military Highway has been banned due to worsening weather conditions.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on January 9, a ban was imposed on all types of vehicles along the Georgian Military Highway. The North Ossetian Ministry of Emergency Situations attributed this to worsening weather conditions in Georgia. On January 10, the restrictions were partially lifted, but the road remained closed to heavy vehicles.

The Georgian Military Highway is closed to traffic, the North Ossetian Ministry of Emergency Situations announced today on its website. "All types of motor vehicles are prohibited from traveling on the Vladikavkaz-Lars section in the direction of exiting the Russian Federation, effective 5:20 a.m. on January 11, 2026," the statement reads.

The ban was imposed "due to worsening weather conditions in Georgia, the impossibility of ensuring safe passage for vehicles, and in accordance with recommendations from the Georgian Border Police," the statement noted.

No entry into Georgia is permitted.

Telegram users in the "Upper Lars Chat" chat also reported the closure of the highway today. "They've closed the road. They're not letting you cross into Georgia," S. E. wrote at 5:44 a.m. Moscow time.

"We just crossed, and the border guards said: 'That's it, they're closing.' There are cars parked on the Russian side," user 1 reported at 6:10 a.m. Moscow time.

"Tell me, are there a lot of cars at Verkhniy Lars?" asked Vidadi Donetsk & Georgia.

"Not yet. About 10 cars," Alexander replied at 6:02 a.m. Moscow time. "Very few in both directions," Georgy confirmed at 6:04 a.m. Moscow time.
