The Armenian Ministry of Sport has demanded an explanation for Mikael Mikaelyan's actions.

The Armenian Ministry of Sport has sent a request to the Ski Federation demanding an explanation for the actions of skier Mikael Mikaelyan, who covered the "Azerbaijan" sign on his suit during the Tour de Ski tournament. Federation head Gagik Sargsyan stated that the skier's actions require no explanation.

As "Caucasian Knot" reported, in early January, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) fined Armenian athlete Mikael Mikaelyan for covering the "Azerbaijan" sign on his suit with tape during the Tour de Ski multi-day race.

The Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports demanded that the country's ski federation explain the actions of skier Mikael Mikaelyan, who covered the "Azerbaijan" sign on his suit with tape during the Tour de Ski tournament, RIA Novosti-Sport reported on January 10.

The text of the request was published by the head of the Armenian Ski Federation Gagik Sargsyan also released his response. According to him, the "Azerbaijan" inscription wasn't on the uniform itself, but on the starting number. "The Armenian guy's actions are more than obvious, and we believe that they require no explanation," he wrote.

Earlier, Armenian Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, commenting on Mikaelyan's actions, stated that "it is important to follow the rules of fair and just play in sports arenas," and that sports should remain sports.

As a reminder, in July 2024, the National Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sports of Azerbaijan filed a complaint to the International Olympic Committee regarding the words of a French TV presenter who mentioned Armenia's loss of Karabakh during the opening of the Olympics.
