A Kislovodsk resident has been detained by security forces in connection with a case of involvement in terrorism.

FSB officers in the Stavropol Territory detained a suspected member of a terrorist organization in Kislovodsk. The detainee admitted to conducting "reconnaissance" at the local police station.

The arrest of a young man in Kislovodsk was reported on October 30. According to security officials, he joined the militants several months ago.

"In July of this year, a Kislovodsk resident voluntarily joined the ranks of a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation with the intention of subsequently committing crimes in its name," the TASS news agency quotes the regional FSB department as saying.

The department released a video recording showing security officials leading the young man in handcuffs into a departmental building. Some of the footage was filmed indoors, showing the detainee giving a confession.

“I met someone online, swore an oath to the emir, and conducted reconnaissance of the police department in Kislovodsk. I admit my guilt and repent,” the man says. His face is hidden in the recordings, and his voice was likely altered.

The criminal case is being investigated under the article on participation in the activities of a terrorist organization (Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Russian Criminal Code, which carries a sentence of ten to 20 years in prison).
