The head of a district in the Astrakhan region was sentenced to seven years in prison for bribery.

The Akhtubinsky District Court found Vladimir Mikhed, former head of the Akhtubinsky District, guilty of accepting a large bribe.

As reported by the Caucasian Knot, Vladimir Mikhed, head of the Akhtubinsky District of the Astrakhan Region, was arrested in early February on bribery charges. He pleaded guilty and resigned.

A court in the Astrakhan Region sentenced Vladimir Mikhed to seven years' imprisonment in a maximum-security penal colony and a fine of 3 million rubles, Interfax reports, citing the Astrakhan Region Prosecutor's Office.

Furthermore, he is banned from holding positions in the civil service or local government that involve exercising government functions for three years. He was also ordered to confiscate the amount he received as a bribe, the publication reports.

"The court found that the defendant, while head of the Akhtubinsky Municipal District of the Astrakhan Region, received a bribe of 1 million rubles from a business entity in January 2023 for resolving the issue of acquiring ownership of municipal real estate," the Astrakhan Region Prosecutor's Office reported on its Telegram channel.

Mikhed assumed his duties as head of the Akhtubinsky District in 2022. He previously served as military commissar of the Akhtubinsky District, the publication adds.
