Chechen native Eliza Soltaeva considers her refuge safe

Elza Soltaeva, a native of Chechnya, who fled to Kazakhstan from domestic violence, reported that she stayed in a safe place. Making the situation public helped save the young woman, who was beaten by her father and husband, human rights defenders noted.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Elza Soltaeva, who had fled domestic violence, was detained by the police in Kazakhstan on February 5. The young woman claimed that her relatives were persecuting her and that she feared for her life. On February 6, Kazakhstani human rights defenders reported that Elza Soltaeva had reached a shelter with the help of the police. The law enforcers accompanied the woman to the place and stopped a car with people from Chechnya who were persecuting Elza Soltaeva. The native of Chechnya intends to appeal to the authorities of Kazakhstan with a request for refugee status.

It is difficult to obtain refugee status in Kazakhstan, and although Elza Soltaeva has every reason to ask for it, state bodies closely cooperate with Russia, and the large Vainakh diaspora in the country expands the opportunities for the woman’s relatives to find her, the human rights defenders note.

In her video message, Elza Soltaeva thanked everyone who helped her. “I am in a safe place. Don’t worry, everything is fine, as you can see, I am alive and well,” the young woman stated in a video posted by the “Marem” human rights group on its Telegram channel.

The human rights defenders expressed their hope that Elza Soltaeva, who “regularly suffered violence during many years, first from her father, then from her husband,” “may finally rest.”

They pointed out that making the Elza Soltaeva’s situation public helped save the young woman.
