Women demand from Georgian police to stop beating protesters

In Tbilisi and Batumi, women are holding protests in front of police stations demanding that policemen stop beating protesters.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the protests against the suspension of negotiations on the country’s membership in the European Union (EU) have been taking place in Georgia since November 28.

Activists and oppositionists claim that the police are unreasonably using special means and excessive force against the protesters. On the night of December 3, after the rally was dispersed, 26 injured people were hospitalized, including three policemen.

Women gathered in front of the police station located on Merab Kostava Street in Tbilisi, the “News Georgia” news agency reports. “We call on all policemen, if they are Georgians, if they are men and have at least a drop of dignity, to resist our executioners and executioners of our children,” the “News Georgia” news agency quotes the women on protest as stating.

The situation in front of the Vake-Saburtalo police station, where a protest of women and mothers is taking place, remains tense. According to the protesters’ report, law enforcers treated their demands cynically, the “Mtavari Arkhi” TV Channel reports.

Women and mothers are also holding protest actions in front of other police stations. The women’s demand is the same everywhere: to stop police raids, beatings, and torture of protesters. The women were brought photographs of the people beaten by the police.

The main problem of the radical opposition is that it is not able to gather a mass of people even close to a critical one, believes an author of the “BERG...man Tbilisi” blog on the “Caucasian Knot”.
