Makhachkala residents interested in information about journalist Gadjiev’s case

Many passers-by took pictures of the picket in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev and scanned a QR code to learn more about his persecution, reported Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft). Abdulmumin Gadjiev continues to write articles under arrest and publish them in the “Chernovik”.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev consider his criminal case to be political persecution and regularly hold solo pickets in his support.

In June 2019, Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of the newspaper “Chernovik”, Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the “Ansar” charitable foundation, and entrepreneur Kemal Tambiev were arrested on the charges of financing terrorism. On September 12, 2023, a court sentenced Abdulmumin Gadjiev to 17 years, Abubakar Rizvanov – to 18 years, and Kemal Tambiev – to 17.5 years of imprisonment.

The solo picket in support of journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev aroused the interest of Makhachkala residents, reported Magomed Magomedov, an organizer of the protest action, the deputy editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Chernovik”.

Magomed Magomedov also reported that on August 31, a new article by Abdulmumin Gadjiev, written at a SIZO (pre-trial prison), was posted on the website of the newspaper “Chernovik”. “In his article, Abdulmumin Gadjiev described what a person who is going to become a student and study at a university should do. It turned out that the article was dedicated to September 1, Knowledge Day, Magomed Magomedov explained.

In his article, Abdulmumin Gadjiev recommends that students who are receiving an Islamic education should carefully choose their specialization, but should not neglect knowledge outside of it. The journalist also recommends the students to study “high Arabic,” not neglect modern technologies, and make comments to those whose behaviour does not correspond to the norms of Islam.
