Azerbaijani mass media campaign against their colleague arrested for bribery

The official newspapers of Azerbaijan have unfolded a campaign against Mushfig Guseinov, journalist of the "Bizim Yol" (Our Way) newspaper, treating him as a criminal, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Meanwhile, members of the family of Mushfig Guseinov, journalist of the "Bizim Yol" newspaper, arrested on July 24, have applied to international human rights and journalist organizations with a request to investigate into the "customized" arrest of the journalist.

The members of his family remind that Mushfig had written several critical articles about the work of the Ministry of Labour and Social Care. In one of these articles he had pointed to a provocation prepared against him. After these publications, a representative of the Ministry had repeatedly called Mushfig up and suggested to have a meeting.

The family members also mark that keeping in custody the journalist who is seriously ill is another evidence of a biased investigation.

The authors of the application find it inadmissible to show in Azerbaijani TV Channels the reports on Mushfig Guseinov's detention and hope for the objectivity of the investigation.
