Workers of Rustavi metallurgical plant stop their strike

Wages of Rustavi metallurgical plant employees will gradually increase by the equivalent of 85 US dollars, the wage rate will be increased in July, a trade union representative reports. According to him, the workers have already stopped their strike and resumed work.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on July 4, about 130 workers went on strike at the Rustavi metallurgical plant. They demanded a 30% increase in wages, which averages 1000 laris (about 340 US dollars), the payment of the 13th wage, and better working conditions.

Today, the strikers at the Rustavi metallurgical plant have accepted the proposals of the enterprise administration, and the work of the metallurgical plant has been resumed, Tamaz Dolaberidze, a trade union representative, wrote on his Facebook* page. According to him, an agreement was reached that the strikers would not be subjected to pressure or harassment and that the downtime during the strike would be paid.

The enterprise administration promised to gradually increase wages by 250 laris (85 US dollars). Starting from July 1, 2022, 100 laris (about 34 US dollars) will be added to a worker’s wage, and the same amount will be added starting from January 1, 2023. Starting from March 1, 2023, the wage will be increased by other 50 laris (about 17 US dollars), Tamaz Dolaberidze explains.

*On March 21, the Tverskoi Court of Moscow banned the activities in Russia of the Meta Company, owning Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, in connection with extremist activities.
