TSU Rectorate yields to students' demands

After students' protests and the statement of the Georgia's Ministry of Education that has urged to take students' opinion into account, the Tbilisi State University (TSU) decided to run the training process during the spring semester in a mixed format, while preserving the remote learning format. However, the TSU will conduct exams in the full-time (classroom) format only.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 10, several dozen students of the TSU named after Ivane Djavakhishvili held a protest rally, where they called on the university administration to preserve the remote training format. They explained their demand by the high cost of renting housing in the capital of Georgia.

In the evening on May 11, the TSU announced on its website that the educational process of the spring semester from May 13 will be held in a mixed, hybrid format. A corresponding change was made to the Rector's order dated August 2, 2021 "On defining the terms of the educational process for the 2021-2022 academic year at Ivane Djavakhishvili Tbilisi State University".

According to the updated Rector's order, the decision on the format of the educational programme or the components thereof is made by the relevant department with account of the specifics of the programmes. However, the final and additional exams for the spring semester of the 2021-2022 academic year will be held only in person. "Exceptions will be made for those students who are in the occupied territory of Georgia."
