Georgian communists fined in Gori for Soviet symbols

The participants of the action held on the Victory Day (May 9) in the city of Gori, carried a red flag. They refused to remove it at police's demand; and policemen detained three protesters.

About 150 people took part in the action; they carried, among other things, the Victory Banner. According to Temur Pipiya, one of the leaders of communists and the organizer of the action, the police demanded to remove the flag, but the marchers refused, the "News-Georgia" writes.

Then, policemen detained three persons. Temur Pipiya and another marcher were fined; the third detainee, a Russian citizen, received a warning. Mr Pipiya has noted that he did not hold the flag, but was fined as the organizer, the "sova.news" informs.

Temur Pipiya has also stated that the day before, law enforcers came to him and warned about the inadmissibility of using communist symbols on May 9.

Let us remind you that the Georgian legislation prohibits using communist and fascist symbols, monuments, bas-reliefs, inscriptions and names under the threat of a fine.
