CEC's data on voter turnout show interest decrease in elections in four NCFD regions

Chechnya, Dagestan, Kabardino-Balkarian and Karachay-Cherkessian Republics (KBR and KChR) have shown a decrease in voters' interest in the elections to the State Duma, as evidenced by preliminary data on voter turnout as compared with the 2016 election campaign: this time, the voter turnout increased only in Ingushetia, Stavropol Territory and North Ossetia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 17-19, the regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), held elections of deputies of regional parliaments, heads of regions and Russian State Duma MPs. In a number of NCFD regions, violations were fixed at voting. Thus, in Dagestan, observers pointed to the mismatch of the data of the regional Central Election Commission (CEC) on voter turnout with observers' estimates. In Ingushetia, problems were fixed with video monitoring at polling stations; and residents of Chechnya pointed to the involvement of state servants in campaigning for the vote.

According to the Chechen CEC, as of September 19, the voter turnout made 93.37%. The Dagestani CEC reported a 76% turnout as of 6:00 p.m. Moscow time. In the KChR, as of 3:00 p.m. Moscow time on September 19, the turnout was 78.51%; in North Ossetia – 78.17%; in the KBR – 77.86%; in Ingushetia – 70.59%; and in the Stavropol Territory – 54.53%, the "Interfax" has reported.

As compared with the voter turnout at 2016 State Duma elections, the voters' interest in the elections has dropped in Chechnya, where it was 96.29% in 2016.

It was now less in the KChR, where in 2016, the voter turnout was 93.32%. In 2016, the one in Dagestan was 88.1%. A decrease in the voter turnout has also been recorded in the KBR, where it was 90.11% in 2016.

Let us remind you that in 2016, Chechnya was the Russian leader in voter turnout at State Duma elections. Besides, in 2016, Chechnya turned out to be the region in which the "Edinaya Rossia" (United Russia) Party received the most votes (96.29%).
