Nagorno-Karabakh authorities announce measures to support refugees

The authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh have announced their readiness to support the refugees who want to do business and compensate for the loss of property as a result of the autumn conflict escalation. In Karabakh, they continue building houses for refugees, paying benefits, including to the disabled and families of those who perished, benefits for children have been increased.

Araik Arutyunyan, President of Nagorno-Karabakh, has stated that at the first stage 58 billion drams (USD 110 million) will be provided by the "Ayastan" Fund (Armenia); 52 billion drams (USD 100 million) more will be provided by Armenian authorities.

The governments of Armenia and Karabakh are ready to compensate for the lost real and movable property, agricultural machinery, as well as business losses suffered by livestock breeders and private entrepreneurs.

Lusine Avanesyan, the press secretary of the President of Nagorno-Karabakh, has noted that the government has begun drafting a programme to financially support citizens who have become forced migrants and refugees after the transfer of a number of districts to Azerbaijan.

Arthur Osipyan, the leader of the "My Right" movement, has noted that all the previously put forward demands remain in force, and the authorities were given the deadline for fulfilling them.

On March 25, activists blocked a road in Stepanakert, demanding to solve the problem of refugees' accommodation. They gave the authorities two weeks to draft a law on the confiscation of illegally acquired property.
