Azerbaijan counts 23 shelling attacks in conflict zone

The positions of the Azerbaijani Army were shelled in the Karabakh conflict zone and on the border with Armenia, the country's Ministry of Defence (MoD) has reported today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 27, the Azerbaijani MoD counted 25 shelling attacks on its troops on the frontline; and the day earlier – 26 ceasefire violations committed in the Karabakh conflict zone.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties agreed on the ceasefire. Despite the agreement, over two years, the parties claimed daily shelling attacks in the conflict zone, as it follows from the infographic "Karabakh after the truce: a two-year war" prepared by the "Caucasian Knot". After the meeting of officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia and Azerbaijan, held on June 20, Azerbaijan stated an almost complete cessation of shelling attacks; however, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Nagorno-Karabakh continues to register violations of the ceasefire.

"Within the past 24 hours, units of the Armenian Armed Forces violated the ceasefire in various sections of the frontline for 23 times," the Azerbaijani MoD has stated today.

The positions of the Azerbaijani Army stationed on the nameless heights in the Gadabay District were exposed to shelling, the MoD has stated. The fire was also delivered from the territories that Azerbaijan treats as its occupied ones, as follows from the MoD's statement.

As of 10:40 a.m. Moscow time today, the MoDs of Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia had not commented on this statement on their websites.
