European Court to consider a torture case of Chechnya school teacher

Today, lawyer Supyan Baskhanov, head of the regional representative office of the Committee Against Tortures in Chechnya, has informed that he received an answer to his complaint on the actions of the officials of the State Office of Public Prosecutor in violation by them of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, laws and regulatory acts of the General Public Prosecutor of the Russian Federation, and the rights of the victim named Alaudin Sadykov.

The Committee Against Tortures has emphasized that the complaint of the Chechnya resident will be considered by the European court for Human Rights.

Alaudin Sadykov, 51, a school teacher from Grozny, stayed in the city during the latest conflict to assist in distributing humanitarian aid. He told the "Amnesty International" that on May 5, 2000, he was detained by OMON (Special Militia) members and brought to the temporary militia in the Oktiabrskiy District of Grozny. There, he was beaten, they forced him his own hair and inflicted burns with a red-hot peace of metal; scars from these burns are still on his hands. According to Alaudin Sadykov, four days later, people in military uniform beat him again and cut off his ear.
