Ingush residents share their impressions of checkpoints on border with Chechnya

In the past year, the number of checkpoints on the border between Chechnya and Ingushetia has increased. So far, law enforcers are calm and do not cause unnecessary problems to residents of Ingushetia who travel to the neighbouring republic, residents of the Sunzha District said.

On January 16, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent visited a renovated checkpoint on the border between Chechnya and Ingushetia.

Residents of the border region of Ingushetia told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they did not encounter any difficulties while crossing the border through the renovated Chechen checkpoint. Meanwhile, they noted that the number of checkpoints on the roads between the republics increased over the year.

"I often, almost every day, travel to the neighbouring regions of Chechnya, including Bamut, Grozny, Assinovka (Assinovskaya, ‑ note of the 'Caucasian Knot'). Yes, there are more checkpoints now. One more checkpoint was arranged between Bamut and Assinovka ... but people are rarely stopped there. I travel from Ingushetia almost every day without any problems," said Murat Khaikharo, a resident of Sunzha.

Magomed Kiev, a resident of the Troitskaya village, noted that he travels on business to Grozny and other cities and villages of Chechnya every day.

"They rarely check anyone's passports [at the checkpoint]. I have never been asked for presenting my passport there," the man said. According to him, people can travel between Chechnya and Ingushetia like earlier.
