Azerbaijani activist placed in dungeon after going on hunger strike

Murad Adilov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), who is on the fifth day of his hunger strike in colony, was placed into the dungeon (a punishment cell), his brother, Natig Adilov, has reported. In its turn, the Penitentiary Service asserts that Adilov refused from his hunger strike.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 5, the court in Baku denied Murad Adilov of the conditional early relief (CER). According to Natig, on September 7, his brother went on a protest hunger strike.

Murad Adilov was detained in August 2014 on suspicion of possessing drugs. On May 14, 2015, he was sentenced to six years in prison. His brother, Natig Adilov, a columnist for the "Azadlyg" newspaper, has linked his brother's prosecution with his oppositional activities. After Murad's arrest, Natig emigrated.

In the evening on September 10, Murad Adilov managed to pass through other convicts to his relatives that after going on a hunger strike, he was placed into dungeon, Natig Adilov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "He had health problems and asked to be visited by representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)," said the brother.

For a long time, Murad Adilov remained without an advocate, but after he announced a hunger strike, Bakhruz Bairamov became his defender. Bairamov intends to visit his client in the coming days, said Natig Adilov, adding that Bairamov intends to appeal against the CER refusal for Murad Adilov.
