Chechen authorities abandon attempts to show that repressions against militants' families are people's demand

Law enforcers of Chechnya have rejected the idea to hold a people's assembly, announced by them earlier, to expel the families of the participants in the attacks on policemen.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported referring to local residents that family members of the August 20 teenagers-attackers on policemen had left the village of Shali under law enforcers' pressure.

Expulsion of people is traditional for Chechnya and is not a pre-trial execution, said Alexei Malashenko, a political analyst and the head of scientific researches at the Institute "Dialogue of Civilizations".

He believes that Ramzan Kadyrov will suffer no punishment, since the "exploitation of traditions" has become natural in Chechnya. Earlier, he noted, Chechen authorities broadly used the practice of burning houses of militants' relatives down.

Eviction of militants' families contradicts President Vladimir Putin's demands to stop pre-trial executions, Tatiana Lokshina, the head of the Moscow office of the Human Rights Watch (HRW), has stated.

In the opinion of Svetlana Gannushkina, the head of the Civil Assistance Committee, in Chechnya, Kadyrov "does everything whatever comes to his mind," while the Kremlin condemns the methods used by the Chechen leader only verbally.

She has added that the Kremlin condemns the practice of persecuting militants' families only in words.
