Change of Grozny Mayor marked by new subbotniks

The new administration of Grozny demanded the streets of the city to be put in order. Public employees are forced to take part in subbotniks (volunteer community works). The people complained about being sent to work in the streets in the heat.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 25, the Parliament of Chechnya approved Muslim Khuchiev to become the new Prime Minister. Earlier, the official held the post of the Grozny Mayor. On the same day, Ibragim Zakriev, a 28-year-old nephew of the leader of Chechnya, was appointed the acting Mayor of Grozny. Until recently, Ibragim Zakriev occupied the post of the First Vice Prime Minister of the Chechen government.

On July 1, Ibragim Zakriev, the new Mayor of the Chechen capital, announced the need for holding city subbotniks.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed by an official from the city administration that large-scale subbotniks started in the city on July 2 and they would last for a week.

Public employees who are forced to take part in subbotniks told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they were dissatisfied with the need to be engaged in cleaning and landscaping city areas in the heat of 40°C. The people have noted that they are strictly obliged to take part in subbotniks.

"We are again forced to take part in subbotniks, organized by the Mayoralty. Like other organizations, we are responsible for cleaning a certain area in the city. Yesterday, on July 3, we were cleaning, painting, and putting it in order during the whole day. We were obliged to come. Even several persons who were on vacations were urgently invited specifically to take part in the subbotnik. In the street, the heat exceeds 40°C, and we have to do work of the communal services," said Salavdi, an employee of an oil industry enterprise.
