US concerned about course of municipal election campaign in Azerbaijan

The US authorities are discouraged at the situation around municipal elections in Azerbaijan, diplomatic sources told the Caucasian Knot correspondent. The United States is dissatisfied with the course of the election campaign and society's low interest in the municipal elections. Washington officials are going to hold consultations with interested parties in the near future in order to "improve" the situation, the same diplomatic sources said.

US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Reno Harnish has already started his consultations with leaders of the Azerbaijan opposition. He already met with chairs of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Musavat Party and AMIP yesterday. The theme of municipal elections in Azerbaijan was exactly the one discussed during the meetings, sources say. The ambassador will hold consultations with representatives of the authorities next week, sources in the US Embassy reported.
