The case of the gas explosion in a high-rise building in Makhachkala has reached court.

A gas utility maintenance employee failed to disconnect the gas supply to a building illegally connected to the gas grid in Makhachkala, where an explosion occurred in March 2025, investigators stated.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on March 25, 2025, an explosion occurred in an apartment in a multi-story building at 14 Gaptsakhskaya Street in Makhachkala's Reduktorny microdistrict. Three women and a man were injured, more than 1,000 windows in eight buildings were blown out, and 50 cars were damaged. Residents of a neighboring building described significant property damage. Authorities estimate that five families need temporary housing. In May, victims complained that the consequences of the explosion had not been eliminated, and they were offered temporary accommodation in country houses. The Makhachkala administration allocated only 810,000 rubles to 19 families who lost essential property after a gas explosion in a multi-story building on Gaptsakhskaya Street.

A criminal case for the provision of unsafe services against a gas service employee suspected of inaction and failure to perform official duties that contributed to a gas explosion in a high-rise building in Makhachkala has been sent to court, the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Dagestan reported today.

According to investigators, in late February 2025, the accused discovered an unauthorized connection to the gas pipeline of an apartment building on Gaptsakhskaya Street in Makhachkala. "Being responsible for preventing such violations, the suspect, in violation of federal law, failed to take measures to disconnect the building, failed to draw up a report, and failed to inform management, thereby refusing to fulfill his duties," the statement reads.

As a result of the suspect's inaction, a gas explosion occurred in one of the apartment buildings, resulting in injuries of varying severity.

The case was investigated under paragraph "c" of Part 2 of Article 238 of the Russian Criminal Code (provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in serious bodily harm).

It was previously reported that on March 25 of last year, an explosion and subsequent fire occurred in an apartment in a 14-story residential building in Makhachkala as a result of a domestic gas leak. Four people were injured. Several apartments and the ceiling were also damaged. 150 residents were evacuated from the building. A state of emergency was declared in the Leninsky District of Makhachkala, where the building is located.

Later, Dagestan Governor Sergei Melikov announced numerous violations in the construction of the building.

As part of the criminal investigation, a foreman from the gas maintenance and repair service in the Leninsky District of Makhachkala was detained.
